It was both a pleasure and a rewarding experience to participate in our Med_net Annual Meeting alongside colleagues representing the three IFLA regions: Africa, Europe, and the Middle East.
This year’s meeting, held in April 2026 in Split, was organized by the Croatian Association of Landscape Architects (CALA/HDKA). Med_net continues to serve as a valuable platform, bringing together countries bordering the Mediterranean, as well as those sharing comparable climatic and environmental contexts.
Our work in the Med_net is guided by a set of core objectives: enhancing the exchange of cultural and environmental values in response to shared challenges; identifying key themes and opportunities emerging from common regional conditions; advancing the concept of “Mediterraneity” as a framework for addressing these issues; strengthening professional networks through knowledge exchange; and promoting the dissemination of initiatives, educational resources, and documentation.
The 2026 meeting centered on the theme “Heritage & Contemporary Uses,” engaging a wide spectrum of discussions. As with previous editions, the outcomes will be compiled into a booklet, to be released shortly, alongside a comprehensive collection of presented materials.

In addition to conference highlights, I am also sharing a selection of photographs from Split’s city center. I was particularly struck by the remarkable level of conservation, which has successfully preserved the integrity of its historic urban fabric. Equally noteworthy were the contributions from our sponsors, whose strong engagement and practical insights significantly enriched the discussions through real-world implementation perspectives.
It is always a pleasure to represent the Egyptian Society of Landscape Architects (ESLA) with the Med_net friends and colleagues.
