Al-Ahram | Memory of the City Series – Maadi: The Green Suburb

An article about our recent book: “Maadi: On the History and Culture of a Green Suburb”, is edited by Nezar AlSayyad, Distinguished Prof at UC Berkeley. My chapter, titled “Maadi: From A Landscape City to A Concrete City,” examines the transformation of Maadi’s landscape over time. Emphasizing riverfront accessibility in Maadi, the analysis examines land-use transformations along the Nile’s banks and the consequent diminution of green spaces resulting from shifts in the urban fabric and street-level development.
