Urban Planning and Design for 500 Housing Units in Al-Jaghboub Oasis – Libya

The project proposes an urban design framework for a 500-unit housing development in Al Jaghbub Oasis, Libya, grounded in respect for local communities, environmental conditions, and inherited knowledge of oasis living. The design approach draws from traditional settlement patterns, climate-responsive building techniques, and collective social practices to establish building and landscape guidelines that are culturally rooted and environmentally appropriate. Housing clusters, public spaces, and productive landscapes are organized to support social cohesion, thermal comfort, and efficient use of resources, particularly water and shade.
